PHYSIC

Physic is the experimental trio of Nick Bates, Shawn Dahlhaus, and Joey Latka based in northern New Jersey. The trio began collaborating in Ramapo College’s Creative Music Technology MFA program and they continue to expand on their electroacoustic practice by infusing elements of improvisation, noise, electronica, acoustic instrumentation, metal, and long-form soundscapes. Their approach to sonic experimentation explores dense textures and immersive sound worlds that play with matter, space, and time.

Physic independently released their debut album, Mise En Abyme, on May 2, 2025, with lead single Prism. The album auralizes the visual arts concept by experimentally layering improvised musical motifs, textures, and sound worlds within themselves repeatedly. As the album progresses, each entire track exists in multiple forms within the following track, creating an exponential immersive soundscape. Through this process, the motifs develop into new forms beyond recognition but still maintain their original DNA, like echoes that reflect, diffract, and refract across space but remain tethered to their original source through time.
